COVID-19 Notification 6.5.20

Yesterday, Governor Reynold’s office released the phased easing of restrictions plan related to COVID-19 for nursing facilities in Iowa. To clarify, this plan is not exactly a ‘Reopening Plan’, yet more so a plan for easing some restrictions.  A full reopening is unlikely in long term care until we have a widely available vaccine to protect people against COVID-19. The plan does attempt to provide a balance between the health of residents/staff with the well-being/psychosocial needs of the residents including visitation of family.

We are reviewing the document and anticipate more clarification to address some unanswered questions about the plan. We do know Silveridge and Eventide Lutheran Home will have different levels of restrictions. We do know to ease any restrictions, it must be 14 days since the last positive or suspected case identified in the facility. (As of today, we have met that, but we need clarification when we can start counting ‘Day 1’. We also know we must have ‘a downward trend in number of cases or the percentage positivity over the past 14 days in the county’ to ease any restrictions. If these two criteria are not met, the restrictions stay (or go back) in place.

We will keep you posted of any changes and hope to learn more next week. Please see the news release from us on 06/03/20 for a little more information on reopening.
